Tilly’s Table

A Google UX Certification Project

Overview

This project was fictional and assigned through Google’s UX Designer Certification. Themes were either random or based on a topic of passion.

The goal was to come up with a comprehensive mobile and web application. As a dog lover, I chose to create a fictional dog food delivery app with a focus on limited ingredient and dietary restrictive diets for dogs. Finding specialty diet foods for dogs have grown but it is a challenge to find the right products. My motivation was driven by my own experiences as well as my peers.

Research & Ideation

The research conducted was extensive and took 1-2 months to analyze and plan prior to jumping into design. My items of research were as follows:

  • UX Research Plan

  • Personas & Journey Mapping

  • Competitor Audit

  • Developed a Problem Statement

Documentation

Early Design

Once I had a good grasp on the research, I moved into the early design phase where I created 2 types of storyboards, followed by a rough draft wireframe on sketch paper, and an introduction into Figma with a lo-fidelity prototype.

The two storyboarding exercises I used were “Big Picture” and “Close-up.” The big picture told a story of the dog food delivery process from a broader view, while the close-up went a little more in-depth with the details of how the user used the app.

Usability Testing

Now that I have a low fidelity prototype, a small group of individuals ranging in ages from 20s-50s were asked to test and provide feedback. As all these individuals were in different places and not able to provide feedback live and in the same location, the unmoderated approach was used. Following the study, a system usability scale (SUS) survey was given to provide an opportunity for additional feedback on how to improve the prototype.

The data gathered in these sessions were organized and prioritized into an affinity map showing the commonalities between what the users feedback.

Conclusion

Tilly’s Table dog food delivery app concept was designed to offer a simple, user-friendly experience. By focusing on intuitive navigation and reliable offerings, it makes ordering pet food easier for busy pet owners. The process included user research, wireframing, and testing to ensure a smooth and efficient app experience.

Note: An additional self project I had worked on was the concept for Tilly’s Table to have a desktop web version:
